PICNIC:

Colleagues International will be hosting our annual summer potluck picnic on August 4th in recognition of all of our volunteers and supporters. We will celebrate global diversity and the citizen diplomacy that defines our mission.

We will be grilling and chilling at the Barrington Shores Pool. Please bring a dish to pass and a swim suit if you would like. Bring your friends and family! We will get together, rain or shine.

Community Policing: Mexico

Kalamazoo — A delegation of law enforcement officials from Mexico is visiting the United States and will be spending July 13-16th in Kalamazoo through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Colleagues International will host the delegation.  The IVLP is designed to improve mutual understanding through communication at personal and professional levels Visitors are current and potential leaders and are selected by American Foreign Service Officers.

Energy Security through Deregulation and Energy Efficiency: Republic of Korea

IMG_20160711_125533Republic of Korea delegates will meet with and tour Southwest Michigan First, Encorp, the Office for Sustainability at WMU, the Palisades Nuclear Plant among others. Discussions will focus on supplier and utility perspectives on energy deregulation, the role of the business community in advancing clean energy, and university campuses as hubs for energy efficiency. Youth Mentoring, Development and After-school Programs: Gabon

Delegates will meet with local educators, sports directors, and non-government organizations.  Discussions will focus on engaging girls through athletic programs; youth program management through instrumental community partnerships; promoting community service through afterschool programs; community support and educational programs for at-risk youth; and cross-cultural and bi-lingual education. Professional meetings include Girls On The Run; the WIRE program of the Walker Institute at WMU; Boys and Girls Clubs, KYDNet’s monthly meeting of youth organizations; as well as Jeter’s Leaders

Environmental Education: Russia

Kalamazoo — 4 Russian leaders participating in the Open World Program will spend June 4th through June 12th, 2016, in southwest Michigan examining Environmental Education.  Colleagues International will host the delegation.

Managed by the independent Open World Leadership Center, Open World introduces rising leaders of emerging democracies to legislative functions essential to democracy. Open World maintains a network of leaders who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America’s democratic, accountable government and free-market system. Funded almost entirely by the U.S. Congress, Open World links Members to their counterparts and is an instrument for Americans engaged in citizen diplomacy
